I'm all for this philosophy but, if someone can't figure out how to DPS in eq2, how are they going to figure out how to make money in the real world? Even the lottery they'd probably at least be asking what numbers to pick.

Well, there's a huge difference between:

HAY GUYS, I'm a new warlock. I've been trying ___ and ___ to make my character perform well. Any idea's what I'm doing wrong?

I was thinking __ may be better then ___ but I've been unable to figure out which is better after trying it myself.
