Warlocks are dominating this expansion and once we start seeing troubs with tempo aa, we'll be having even more fun... my troubs and I have been slackn... still mid 160s (/play real life card here).
Long story short and I think it has been mentioned before:
Any class can be great depending on how it is played. How much a guild wants someone depends mostly on their talent as a player. Also very important is what classes they need to fill in their raid. You said you have a coercer and a warlock and you were talkn about illus. It is typical to find 1 coercer 3 illu and 1 warlock in a raid. But can also make a semi optimal raid with 2 coercer 2 illu and 2 lock.
anyhow... headed out.

I agree, there are a ton of things to take into consideration. Gear/cast order/group set up. But, the raid contributes to the dps not just 1 dps class.
And, cast order I helped a poorly geared warlock half MC/half rok legendary stuff with his cast order. Was doing de buffs, not casting gift all sorts of nasty stuff. Gave him some advice and he said he is parsing 1k+ more now, in the same group set up.
Also, annoys me but when people who have never played a warlock to 80, let alone one that raids and can say all this stuff about how you should do this you should do that, just like to talk out their ass.
In response to the "important" roles warlocks don't really bring much, our group buffs are ok, not the best not the worst but if you can be on the top of the parse why not have 1.
All depends what a guild wants/needs in their raid and if they have a spot I guess
