Single target, flames beats cata easily. No question. In fact, almost everything does. It's better than dissolve, and radiation of course, but what isn't? The nice thing about cata is the interrupt for certain fights though...

Calculated dps efficiency (damage divided by time spent casting), given a certain set of gear I had a month or two ago:

4513 Acid (full duration, M2, no TSO AAs or poison mastery)
4456 Absolution (with mythical, M2, All TSO AAs, +30% equipment bonuses)
4449 Flames of Velious (yes, the TSO AAs are worth it...)
4385 Acid Storm (not precast, full 30 s duration)
4143 Distortion (no Focus:Distortion mods)
3892 Master Strike
3882 Absolution (same as below, but M2)
3844 Vacuum Chamber (full duration)
3779 Absolution (M1, with mythical clicky on, All TSO AAs, no equipment bonuses)
3728 Encase
3409 Upheval
3155 Cataclysm
3149 Dissolve (with 5 EoF AAs and 5 TSO AAs)

Look, even with all 10 EOF and TSO AAs, dissolve still can't even beat the blue aoes... pathetic. And a waste of 7 AAs...

EDIT: This is without UT, but 1 more tick probably only adds a few hundred dps to cata... probably bumps it above upheval. I have factored in poison mastery here.

Are you taking into consideration the spells recast? Yes, its obvious to anyone who isn't a complete retard flames does quite abit of damage, based off cast time, but its reuse, not so much.

Why do you care what the reuse is or the zonewide total? DPS efficiency tells me what I get the most bang for the buck out of right now given two spells that are both up. (edit: assuming the fight will last long enough to complete the spell for sure and to finish all ticks, of course).

If your reuse is extremely low and you actually run out of spells to cast at times, then reuse may factor to help make sure you always have something to cast later in the spell order, but that's it - total sustained dps from a spell is a useless stat.

You should always have a spell up, under no circumstances should there not be one. and what I am saying is, trash mob gets pulled, you cast flames, while waiting for it to refresh, you can unload dissolve/cataclysm enough times to make the dps of those during the flames refresh > flames dps.

And yes, I understand some mobs you don't stand close enough to let off cata/upheaval, and no I rarely use dissolve i'm just stating what is there

usually another spell like Distortion, Acid(needing refreshed), thunderclap etc are up and ready to go after flames is done casting and almost never need to cast cataclysm or dissolve in that matter.

EDIT: also would like to add....that even during the time flames is in recasting state you have all your other spells that probably need to be casted that are better than dissolve or cataclysm. Unless of course your reuse is so minimal or non existant that you have nothing else to cast.

Berrbe your spec in the warlock tree makes ne sense at all. Did u realize that the melee proc caps off at 3 pts? also the nihilistics dmg shield is big time dps even when u put in on yourself in certain fights... also 4 pts in dissolve instead of 3? no pts in Radiation with all the ae content? This gotta be the worst warlock tree spec i've ever see for a raiding warlock. 1 pt in Magi shielding ? Lol dude...you must be fucken horrible.

yeah that warlock and shadow tree needs some tweaking. so many points in dissolve...

QFE. And only 3 pts in gift instead of 5?? wow. i stopped raiding on a warlock a few months ago but geez even now i can notice so much stupidity in people's AA setups. Dissolve is not to warlocks what Beam is to illusionists.
