Default group setup

i know the optimal group setups for warlocks and all, so this is not a question of that really...

my guild currently has only one troub. the obvious answer would be "well get another one" but there seem to be like a total of 4 on my server so it's tough.

i'm almost always the highest DPS mage in the raid, and pretty much compete only with the assassin for top spot. lately, however, i've been tossed into a group that looks something like this:

warlock
monk
defiler
illusionist
ranger
paly (or brig, or some other random class)

while the "mage group" is more like:
necro
conj
illy
troub
inq
sk (if there is one)

now, my question here is...should i be frustrated? would you? is this the optimal setup, given the available classes, for maximum overall raidwide DPS?

(watch me get bitched at for posting this, but fuck it, i want feedback)

You're getting TC right? I'd be more upset with not having more troub buffs... but you do get better recovery and faster casting with time compression.

Who is the troub putting UT on? And that second group, who is the illy putting tc on?

upbeat vs time compression...

upbeat:
reuse: 10%
recovery: 25%
casting: 15%
+1 tick

time compression:
reuse: 10%
recovery: 40%
casting: 20%

your problem is that you have 2 too many summoners! but this prolly really doesnt answer your question... but i wouldnt be too upset if i was getting tc... and like i said, i would like some of the troub buffs (dktm, aria, allegro).

maybe ask to swap one of the summoners for you?

I've always thought that if there's only one troob available, the group should be filled with mages (so 4 mages, the troob and the healer). I might be terribly wrong again of course :P
Troob just does too much for mages to put something else in there if there's just one available.

this is the raid being set up by the necro...his theory is that summoners benefit best from troub buffs cause they have pets too so the troub group should have all the summoners. and the necro gets tc in his group. troub doesnt have UT yet, he just changed mains after we lost our other troubs. in fact i've never had UT on me ever, i'd love to see what it would do....but if i do get an illy, yes i get TC but troub buffs still add a TON of dps to me, more than TC it seems

agree with terra and velizar here,
sounds like the necro is screwing you so he looks good, you should ragequit the guild because if raids are setup like this then the officers and leaders are stupid and/or complete assholes.
Without a 2nd troub there cant really be 2 mage groups so as terra says there needs to be 4 mages in the group pref the 4 highest parsing ones.

This sounds like a buff-whoring leader.

I dunno, I wouldn't jump to conclusions. If both the conj and the necro significantly outdps you, it might be best to leave them in the troub goup. It looks like you still get TC and aggro control via the paladin, so all you're really missing is aria, bard cast speed, and bard crit.

However, if you are on equal ground with the summoners then yeah it sounds like the raid leader is buff whoring. It never makes sense to give summoners TC or UT as a big chunk of their dps comes from their pet, which is not enhanced by the buff. Summoners tend to perform better outside of the mage group than sorcerers.
