Locks make better tanks, if you're concerned about that sort of thing (not that wizzies can't tank stuff with the right gear - just a lock with same gear can tank it better...)

On new x2 zone, we've split the raid in half a few nights and ran it... when we've gotten to the book room, my group with me in tank spec and in the MT group with guardian we've cleared it both times in and only wiped like once each time. Meanwhile the group that got our wizard and no lock is having huge issues with that fight with the healers (and the wiz) dying over and over and over from aggro problems.

Warlock's mythical proc of 12% deaggro one position gives us so little hate. I typically end encounters on single targets at between 5 and 20% hate on the new meters. Meanwhile our wiz has to wait till at least midway through the fights to let loose of his big hitters or he ends up pulling aggro and dying. Not only that, but it seems a lot of our spells we typically start encounters with cause less aggro anyway.

In addition we are more steady, consistent long term dps. Adds to the aggro control even more.

So, I say if you like laying on your back, stick with your wiz... But I'd agree with someone who said your best bet is probably leveling up a lock. Biggest problem there would be getting the AAs to get your finals...

Just as steady as a wizard, there really isn't much difference but, to make a serious post here for once...

Warlocks and Wizards always have a good sinergy together in raid because with bosses now that typically/frequently spawn pack of heroic adds, a warlock can make a quick switch a demolish them without needing help of a wizard, while a wizard can keep their target on a named mob and never take it off, dealing very good single target dps. Wizards and locks help each others dps really if they're both alive and on a roll.

The difference between some fights in TSO though without a lock is quite noticeable. But as i said above they really compliment one another kind of well imo. Just pick your side of the fence!

There is very little difference between wizard and warlock nowadays. TSO gave warlocks better single target dps and wizards better AOE dps. In this espansion I've never seen a good wizard dramatically outparse me on singles, and I've never dramatically outparsed a good wizard on AEs. (key term: "good") There are slight edges in each specialty, but nothing major.

Asumming same group with lock getting UT and wizard getting TC, they are going to perform roughly the same. If you're all mastered on on your wizard I would advise against switching as its probably not worth the effort. (And warlock buffs aren't great enough for justify 1 warlock 1 wizard being more desireable to mage groups than 2 wizards each with gifts) However if you haven't sunk too much cash into spells, warlock M1s are dramatically cheaper than wizard M1s, so its easier to reach your max potential.

As far as playstlyle goes, by going lock you'll be getting slightly faster casting spells and slightly better buffs, but you'll be losing utility like velium gift, rays, and evac. You'll probably have fewer aggro problems on the warlock due to mythical proc and spells being more dot-based than dd-based.

C'mon I've seen parses of warlocks nailing off 39k on palace trash, mobs, haven't seen a wiz do that. And yes, an SK was switched to MT for the fight (obviously). Warlocks still do better keeping up or surpassing the wizzies on single target, but I don't believe a wiz can keep up on AoE fights.

Either way, I agree with the synergy statement, and noone really mentions the fact that a warlock increases groupwide disruption/subjugation/all that fun stuff, which might not seem relevant until you are trying level 87-88 mobs.

Get upbeat tempo on a warlock, time compression on a wiz, and if both are skilled, both will do well.

You seen my parses Rip? Many warlocks have better gear than I do on other servers and I think 40kish is about right for the trap trash encounters in Palace. Things that make our parse go down are the longer the fight drags on if the rest of the raiders are slacking on dps.

Single target I will rarely beat a good wizard but I will be within a few thousand. Encounter fights I rock wizards and the more mobs the more they're rocked.

If anyone is worrying about stripping hate, a wizard shouldn't ever have to hold back unless your tank sucks or he has 0 hate buffs. Worst case he can always toggle Trak's Gaze.

As Dakkota mentioned, I find it good for a lock to swap off to AE burn adds while keeping a wizard on the named the whole fight.

I've done 36 - 41k on that fight as a wizzy, so you should see this wiz!.....of course the warlock was doing 71 - 80k
