Default neitherrealm

quick question, I just betrayed to warlock. Do you have to be close to a mob for neitherrealm to work? Description makes it sound that way, but doesn't say a radius if it does.

With UT it's not bad, but not something you would go out of your way to cast. It's a filler at best if you don't have enough recast to keep your high efficiency spells rolling.

It is not worthwhile unless you have nothing left to cast while waiting for spell refresh but if you know what you're doing/get ut or tc this wont happen.
It's disease based, poison mastery makes poison based spells tick faster/harder/do more damage. It wont tick for more damage each tick, it has a long cast time(in comparison to acid). You can cast a lot more worthwhile spells than this spell.
Aka, do not keep this spell running like you should with acid, use it only if you have nothing else.

Taken from here.

SPELL EXPLANATION (Netherealm):
This is an aura spell. It is classified beneficial because you cast it on yourself. It’s base duration is 30seconds. Instantly and every 5 seconds (base) it casts a detrimental on all targets within 25m of you. I REPEAT!!! THIS SPELL IS ONLY EFFECTIVE UP TO 25m. In other words… the same range as your absolution, encase, dark nebula and aura of void. The moment you are done casting the spell the first 25m aoe detrimental goes out. This effect lasts for 5 seconds. If during that 5 seconds that mob is damaged with any noxious spell (any noxious spell… not just your own) it will trigger the damage on that mob. All the damage counts as yours, not as the person casting the spell. Every 5 seconds it re-applies this detrimental to all mobs within 25m of where you are (not from where you casted it). This adds up to a total of 7 ticks (Initial + 30s/5s). If a mob is not damaged for one of the 5sec periods that damage is lost, the next detrimental applies over the old one. If you precast when the mob is inc but outside 25m you lose your initial tick and any ticks after that if the mob is still outside 25m when they try to apply.

The achievement for netherealm reduces the duration by 10 seconds making the duration 20s instead of 30s. This means that over 20s you have 6ticks. 20s/6 = time between each application which is 3.33s. The detrimental will still remain on any mob for 5 seconds but if that mob is within 25m when the next detrimental tries to apply 3.33s later it will override.

Typically procs don't cause other things to proc... but...

never bothered to test, but i would assume not... but it wouldn't matter. So many other things that will proc it in raid. Only time I'd think this would matter would be in small group setting where the only poison use is the warlock and a pred/rogue... so... it's not often enough to worry about imo.

why do you ask? curiosity?

This post got me thinking about the spell again.. Every now and then I die to a mob in an encounter cause the mob runs right on by the tank and splats me... and you here me cry out.. but i have not cast anything yet! Course thats wrong cause i precast this.

So... if the tank pulls and has my buffs on him... and one of them procs a poison... the mob takes poison damage from the buff. The damage counts to me. This goes off and now ive done more damage to mob then the tank who is hitting something else in the encounter.

One dead warlock.

my gut feeling this particular spell might be working off procs...

Course.. it might just be that my buff on the tank is pulling the mob all by itself. Not really tested it.
