Re: Maximizing DPS as a Raid Wizard - A Guide
I wouldn't say everyone. :D Maybe I'm abnormal, but I've never used a spreadsheet once in my life.
Edit: Solid post Daray. I didn't read through all of it yet, but a lot of people could sure benefit from that information.

Aye BoE gets applied after the crit calculations - covered that in a couple of spots .. but i dont think the VWB function as BoE anymore (well not in the strict sense) - because it gets applied alongside other damage modifers (before crits i believe).

Re: Maximizing DPS as a Raid Wizard - A Guide
I was refering to the line where you gave the order in which they came base + int etc...
Yep, but I believe it was always like that and still counted towards cap. The difference is just where it is applied in the equation.
Also, thanks for typing this up and saving my lazy self the trouble :p
Edit: Just went and verified, VWB do count as boe. The easiest way to verify this is to proc them and notice they don't increase the dot portion of any of the dots, just the initial tic (where as plasma wand and dark orb increase both the initial tic and the dot). Also of note is that the TnT set does NOT count as boe (which makes me wonder if it stacks with the dark orb/plasma wand, I can't check this part as I don't have the wand or orb).

If that is the case, then maybe it gets applied as a seperate step right before the fixed +spell damage is added. When i tested it, the VWB did not modify any +spell damage amount which was added on by fixed +spell damage amounts.

Re: Maximizing DPS as a Raid Wizard - A Guide
Are you saing fixed +spell damage as in boe or as in something else? If you are saying it as in boe then no it wouldn't effect that as they are additive together towards the cap and effectively go at the same time.

Wow, what an ownage guide, thank you for posting this.
I gave you edit rights to the first four posts.
If you want to get fancy, check out the wrap table feature now available as the last selection in the edit screen, above where you type out your posts. It will let you make posts in BB code looking like you posted a spreadsheet.
Thanks again.

Re: Maximizing DPS as a Raid Wizard - A Guide
For those of you who didn't catch on to it, with all the math we did we came to the conclusion that in theory a broken set is better for dps if you can get enough gear in the broken set that would be either the equivalent of 140 boe, or enough proc gear to do roughly 2800 damage a minute (or some combination of both). So basically you are going to need like 3 of the optimal pieces for it to be worth breaking the set. Some combination of breath, gloves, insulated cuffs, cowl of the crypt, the circlet of conjuration and set shoulders are decent substitute pieces for those slots if you don't have the piece for that slot but have the others.
Also, another tid bit of information. He is referring to Fusion and the INT cap for damage on spells in the following quote.

This is to allow it so that instead of you losing damage as you level, since your place on the curve "drops," instead you stay the same for that ability. It's been this way for a while, just not many people notice it, or even think about noticing it. Either way, Level 65 spells cap at 995, Level 70 spells cap at 1070. Whereas the amount of power you gain caps at 1070 at Level 70.
