A technique that helped me soloing in Chelsith, was to hit the mobs with flames of velious first. Since it has longer range then root, if it is resisted you have a better chance of leashing the mob. If it does hit, then you slow the mob enough to get the root off and leash it if it resists. After I started that, I never died on the pull again.

Apparently I had a bugged zone before. I got back into Chelsith last night solo'n trash and the epic starter dropped on mob #15. So yea, I retract my previous statement, it does appear to be quite frequent.

Here's the technique I use, it's a bit convoluted, but it works for me. I cast Velium Gift for the slow, then Storming Tempest (since it has a good range and the stun/knock down gives you added time to get a root to stick). As soon as the root sticks, I cancel Storming Tempest so the next tick doesn't break my root. Apply my second root til it sticks, then I hit the INT doll. Pretty much just a standard root and nuke after that, keeping it double rooted and casting only direct damage spells. Only time there is ever any risk after that is if you get a nuke that breaks both roots, and you get a series of resisted roots (in which case you should be close enough to the leash point to break the encounter). Another tip that Crushbone.Hadriel posted awhile back that I've actually noticed making a difference in lowering resist rates is equipping The Arm of Mithaniel.

Starter: Kill any trash mobs in Chelsith to loot A Dilapidated Journal from a small chest. Read the journal and it will give the quest Of Fire and Ice.
2nd: Head to New Tunaria and speak with Cerennhir Aelindel ( -390, 46, -949 ) in the library. He gives the quest Of Fire and Ice: A Codex in Crisis.
3rd: get 4 updates from Deep Chardok. Through the Red Gate and body-dropped from Gorowynnian Di'Zoks - only drops from these mobs. Semi Rare can spend 3 hours trying to get them to drop. It is possible for more then 1 codex to drop per corpse as well.(need more info on this step, why 4 updates for one codex?(read the quest chat, the codex was being taken apart))
4th: examine the item given to you in New Tunaria then return to the quest giver there
5th: Sends you to find an NPC in a tower overlooking the heavens et cetera (Tower of the Moon in Maj Dul - Top floor)
6th: Find the ring. Kill Elder Skyfire Wyverns in JW outside of VP - body drop/semirare (I had to kill about 30 wyverns to update)

To enhance it is in lava storm above Lord Xyfi
8th Yetti caves in KP find pile of rubble and spawn named 80^^^ (is solo'able)
9th Of Fire And Ice: Band of the Frost Maiden, Another divine enchantment on a ring.. But who will Enchant ring?
10th Enchant it in Everfrost, find Lianashanai Nadeu at 512.83, -34.18, -1561.6
11th Find 3 statues... 1st in TS - 431.50, -88.25, 1438.15, 2nd in Kylong Plains 1517.16, -17.88, -16.94, 3rd in Loping Plains 181.28, -30.96, 558.94. Return to Lianashanai.
12th REturn to Jaestin in tower of moon
13th goto gnomeland security to find someone who can help utilize the power of the 2 rings

Currently I'm on this step:
14th Find an unenchanted bone wand, its from Xalgoz in KC

this can all be summed up and altered to say.

Bring a +15int hex doll to debuff the mob by 1k magic without DoT'ing it. And bring a +15agi hex doll to snare the mob for 2 minutes on initial pulls. Less resists, and less deaths. Hex dolls last for almost 2 minutes long.
