Default Got a fast response on my petition about a Ring of Negative Energy

GM said there are currently no issues with this ring!

Sure there are not.

All the other wizards must have quit already! Four hour camp on Master Arcanist Guroth , 4 kills , nothing. Previous 2 kills on that mob, nothing. One of the Nihilists (I forget which one), nothing. One kill on Praetorian Captain Nagol, nothing.

And it is oh so nice that even though this quest is supposed to be a "group" quest, the effective encounter for Kotiz the Death Bringer is balance for raid equiped players! Three wipes so far getting to him, one of which was a group of 12!

I followed a group of 5 up to him lol. They let me shimmy in and he dropped it first kill...my sebillis step took a grand total of about 30 min Lol, it is a 'group' quest I assure you. RNG's a bitch.

Grats on your good luck!

The problem I see with this quest being called a "group" quest is the supposed target audience.

The target audience for these epic weapon quests is supposed to be the "casual" players, not the "hardcore" players.

Yes, if a group of "hardcore" players attacks that mob, they stand a good chance at victory, even if that mob is a bit of a challenge. The repops down there are a bit fast. Also, "hardcore" players have an easier time with long camps.

If a group of "casual" players attacks that mob, good luck! Have you been in pickup group recently? They can be aweful! There are lots and lots of players whose dps seems to be about 1/3 to 1/4 of where it should be. Combine that with the repop rate, and forget it. Do not expect to get to that last named in that situation. Such groups can finish the other classes' epic weapon quest steps in Sebilis just fine, however. (Well, the whipcrackers can be a bit of a pain.)

The other problem is with the nature of the update. Lets say one does find a pickup group for Sebilis working on epic weapon quests. The other, say five, working on their epic in there will get their update without any camping whatsoever or with a known number of mobs to kill. Not wizards. Not only do we not get the update every time, but also it is a rare drop of named mobs, the drop is a corpse drop for whatever reason, and the mobs that drop it are not exactly an easy camp. I can only hope the repop timers are not that bad.

Also, if that end mob in the zone is a suitable mob for this quest, why was the Templar quest updated so that the Templar did not need to kill that mob?! A templar just needs to click on a chest in the Laboratory on the top level now, what a difference!

Also remember, this step is the _second_ camp we wizards had. The first camp was deep in Chardock. I had 4 each of 3 of the codex pieces before one of the last codex piece dropped. Same situation there, everyone else gets their auto-update, but not wizards.

Is there any other class that needs more than one "successful" pickup group to get a guaranteed completion of a particular epic weapon quest step? We wizards need two such groups! ("successful" meaning killing the target mob at least once in this case, or the required known number of times.)

We could at least get a "no quest item found" message if we kill a proper mob and have bad luck with the drop. How is a wizard supposed to figure out which mobs drop that item in the first place? There are enough reported drops from different mobs now that one can assume that ring can drop off more than one mob.

Assuming place holders don't count, I have at least eight plausible kills with no drop! What is the drop rate on this a ring of negative energy anyway? If this drop is meant to be a rare drop, and least let it drop off a mob I can solo! Why put both the wizard and the wizard's group mates through this hell?

This rant also needs to touch on the Reet quest lines. Inevitably, somone is looking for updates in those Reet quest lines and sends the pickup group running around the zone, killing more mobs, but not ones that have a shot at dropping that ring. The zone is sufficiently tough that the group dispands with maybe one kill if I am lucky on a mob that can potentially drop an update. Why should the others stick around and camp? If I got my one kill for my update, and they got one kill for their update, we should all be even, correct? But noooooo, everyone else only needs one kill per quest update (usually, if not that a fixed number), and wizard needs lots of kills of rare named mobs on longer respawn timers. And, the wizard's mobs are contested named mobs!

Oh yeah, that last mob that guards that door better be a Necromancer and not a Warlock! If that last mob is a Warlock, then it should not be dropping the ring ever, if the lore of the quest is to be maintained!

It is a group quest, yes, but not for all groups.
Deep seb is dangerous ; mobs are 83+ triple arrow and come by 2 (or more...) and fast respawn.
My guild is a good guild and can go down there with one group. I did that once, and other wizard got ring
For RL reasons, I can't play at night those days, then I did almost all Epic with PU during afternoon (guildies are working !)
I can tell you that "standard" PU groups wipe there very very fast.
They already had some problems going to Chardok red gate, but here the prison pool the nightmare starts. Most groups have difficulties standing 2 mobs, and wipe each time a 3d one comes.

Well, anyway, it is supposed to be an EPIC, then, for those guys, it is really a challenge.

Uhm, no it's not targeted for the casuals you moron. It's targeted for the people from above casual(let's face it, you aren't casual anyway, casual is playing 10 hours a week, not 2-3 hours a night like you so obviously do) to the hardcore. Also, maybe you should look at what other mobs can drop it.

Quote:
Apparently Praetorian Captain Nagol (-15, -129, 463: "a Praetorian officer" is the PH) in the previous room can drop this update, as well as Nihilist Yeegarn (72, -131, 164: "a cabilis resident" is the PH) and Nihilist Zeegarn (0, -136, 186: "a cabilis resident" is the PH) in either of the two entry rooms to the Ruins of Sebilis (basement) - unconfirmed.
So, maybe you should try those mobs as well!

Quit crying about a quest that actually takes a bit of time and legwork. Instead invest that time in trying to do the quest.

I believe the first part of the reward was supposed to be for for "group" players, and the second part of the reward for "raid" players.

The reward for "raid" players (mythical reward) is much, much better than the reward for "group" players (fabled reward). For many, the first part of the reward leaves one wondering, was it worth all that effort and aggrivation, which is a topic of other threads?

It doesn't say reward for people who login everyday and suck at the game. It's a reward for people who play their character to the fullest and don't suck at it.

Yup. Not every swingin dick who raids is gonna get the "raid" version. You have to be part of a raid guild that can kick some ass to be able to clear all of the RoK raid content and get the mythical weapons.

Same goes for groups. People who suck need not apply. People who play in regular groups with dedicated partners who all know wtf they're doing? yeah. they're gonna finish the "group" version.

Maybe they should have made it a little clearer when they announced these quests and instead of calling them "free-gimme-birthright loots" they should have called them "Epic".. um. er.. wait....

I got the RNG on my first kill on him (lets hope OP knows that the ring is a body drop and HE needs to click on the body to see it). All the other wizards I know personally got it off him on the first-kill too.

How about providing some information I did not already know? Also, check all the forums, it seems Master Arcanist Guroth drops the item too: I have six kills on that one!

Link: LootDB.com | EverQuest II Item Database - a Ring of Negative Energy and a thread in either the SoE or here contains a report of a drop off that mob too.

Or for that matter, how about not bitching about me not doing someting I am already doing.

Hell, how about even reading my reply. I am going to have all the other quests in the zone memorized by the time I get this one complete. If everyone in a pickup group gets on shot at an update, then that is a good group. This never ending camp has to go! I even had a camp on Master Arcanist Guroth last night, four hours, four kills, no drop! Who knows how many place holders and no drop either.

Well duh I am not a casual player, I am posting here aren't I. Perhaps you should mention your perceived target audience to the one that wrote that producer's letter. There are TWO rewards: one for the casual player and one for the hardcore player. Attach this neverend camping bullshit on the hardcore player's reward. I would give you the link and quote from the most recent producer's letter if I could find the link on the eq2players website.

Servers are down as I write this reply. No way to search for a group as I write this.
