Well said, Illuminator. I personally don't understand the equivocation of "class forum moderator" with "best in class". I have known some excellent. top-notch players in game whom I would _never_ entrust the responsibilities of "class forum moderator" with.
In my opinion and, from what I gather from the above posts, the opinions of many, a class forum moderator serves his/her class community by editing/posting in the class forum as needed to ensure that it serves its purpose: a roundtable for discussing issues faced by the class in game where people can contribute _and_ can easily benefit from the opinions and experience of others. To do so, the class forum moderator does his/her best to ensure that threads remain on topic and that misinformation does not remain unchecked and run rampant. That is, a class forum leader is an at-least somewhat-knowledgeable administrator who donates his/her time to benefit the class community.
When Renaven, a wizard with whom I had a good rapport with on Guk, appointed Arabel, whom I did not know at the time, as class forum leader when he resigned, I was apprehensive (especially given his guild affiliation :P). During his time as class forum leader, however, Arabel has proven to be invaluable to the wizard community and has gone above and beyond his responsibilities with some of his posts. His maturity and objective approach to issues has been a boon. Apparently, Renaven knew what it took to be a class forum leader and saw in Arabel the same.
Daray would have also made an excellent class forum moderator, in my opinion. His contributions to the forums are unrivalled. It's to the detriment of the wizard community that his interest in the game has waned.
Having said all that, I cannot think of a person better suited to appoint the new class forum moderator than Arabel. Given that he knew what was required of the position, I trust that he has selected a worthy successor, just as Renaven did. I do not believe that a forum vote could achieve a better result.
Congratulations and condolences, Dakkota, the timesink/headache begins.
