Leveling a Wizard(Without money for spells)
Hello all, ive resently started a Erudite Wizard and i enjoy it alot, i have scavenged some app4 spells and lvl 17 atm, i have 4 AA points unused, 1 in the 3 pets. What stat line(s) would be prefered to level as a solo wizard who enjoys an instance grp every now and then? Or maybe i should go Wizard Line? Suggestions for a leveler please 8)

Re: Leveling a Wizard(Without money for spells)
Alot of people prefer to go down the sta line for survivabillity.
Personally I went down fire for the power reduction on the spells.
Thats just me.

Re: Leveling a Wizard(Without money for spells)
On a PvP server you really have to go down the STA line and get Manashield

Re: Leveling a Wizard(Without money for spells)
The the best DPS (which is all you should care about), you should go strength and agility. Strength for the crit and agility for the casting speed. Don't worry about money for spells until upper tiers. Levels are too fast before 65 or so to bother spending money on (unless you have it to spend). Wisdom should be the last line you try to spec down. DPS comes first, then worry about power usage.
You want to max out any crit and spell casting nodes, by the way. =)

First 5 points in elemental debuff always, especially if you're struggling with spell quality early on.

Re: Leveling a Wizard(Without money for spells)
Udoaka indicated the STA line is good for soloing, a choice made by some soloing wizards. This line of the sorcerer tree provides a number of nice features. Although a goal of a wizard should be never to get hit, the extra mitigation provided by Battlemage Armor can come in handy in reducing the amount of damage actually taken when hit. Manashield can also permit you to mitigate incoming damage, but you want to ensure you have enough power remaining to either kill the mob or make your escape. Battlemage's Fervor is a very nice ability that increases disruption and subjugation. Higher disruption and subjugation will help land your damage spells and roots more easily. Spell quality for most of your spells affects two things generally: the amount of damage done, if any, and the resistability of the spell. Thus, having additional disruption and subjugation helps when you cannot afford spell quality upgrades.
Regarding Udoaka's recommendation of the fire line in the wizard tree, power consumption and quicker cast times for a few select nukes (which the fire line generally provides) are likely to be one of the least of your worries when soloing. Points spent in the WIS line can provide better DPS enhancements and power cost reductions than anything in the fire line. Generally, this is not a line to start with for soloing.
Mo0rbid's recommendation is suitable for PVPing. You, however, have stated that you are interested in soloing and some grouping, and your info block states that you are on Runnyeye, a PvE server. Thus, his recommendation does not apply to you.
Khryll stated that you should principally focus on DPS, and then goes on to state that you should spec STR and AGI. While the AGI line provides the greatest DPS boost when grouping or raiding, it is of less value when soloing since you are not concerned so much with casting speed as you are with damage amount on the few nukes you cast and your roots landing. STR is nice in that you get a boost to your spell crit chance and Catalyst, a guaranteed crit on your next damage spell. The issue here is that it costs health, something which may be dear to you when soloing.
The WIS line may also be of interest as it provides for enhanced damage, reduced power consumption and a small, but quickly-regenerating ward.
Illuminator's recommendation of spending your first five available points immediately in the elemental debuff found at the top of the ice line in the wizard tree has merit. By spending points in and casting the debuff, you are reducing the resistability of all your spells. This is useful if you are unable to significantly upgrade the quality of alot of your spells, as you have indicated. When you are soloing, however, you will want to be careful with casting that debuff spell as it also comes with a DoT component that has a chance to break your root(s) with each tick.
Last, one bit of unsolicited advice: use an INT doll to debuff mobs you've rooted while soloing. Your roots will have a better chance of landing and your nukes will hit harder.
Also, do a search for "soloing" in this forum, I believe there were some previous threads on this topic.

Re: Leveling a Wizard(Without money for spells)
Jahras,
In my post above, I've tried to make sense of the recommendations provided by others, and have indicated some of the pros and cons of some of the various AA lines available to you. Further, the threads available in these forums on the same topic, in many cases, provide good information. Part of the fun of playing a class, in my opinion, is learning about it. It's not my character, it's yours. I do not wish to deny you the pleasure of exploring the class for yourself by telling you how I'd play the class for your purpose given my experience. Perhaps I'm hoping that, through your exploration, you can share your experiences in these forums with others.

Being a Canadian who has mostly tended to ignore recent events in U.S. politics, I am unsure whether to be insulted or flattered. Ignorance is truly bliss.
