I need help with my DPS please. Let me start though by saying I have read through the large sticky post at the top of this forum, including the post by Daray, but I still have some questions. I may have missed some info in there, and since it was posted a while ago, I'm not sure if it all still applies or if there have been changes.

Currently with just self-buffs I am at 91% Spell Crit, 1157 Int, 527 Spell Mod. I know I need to get my Spell Mod higher, but I don't get a lot raid gear and have been more focused on getting my Spell Crit up first. I have 177 AAs, but have not respecced to fill out the Shadows tree. I am missing a few staples, like the SoF Choker and Praetor's Guard, but it's not for lack of trying, they just don't drop for me and my friends are pretty tired of me begging for groups for those zones. I do have the Talisman of the Ethernauts, Wand of Elemental Knowledge and Bloodied Advisor Robes, and a couple pieces of raid gear, as well as my Mythical. Unfortunately most of my spells are still Adept 3, I only have a few masters.

Still, I know I should be doing better DPS than I am, but it's just not happening. In groups without UT or TC, I'm doing about 3k zone-wide in a TSO instance, with TC or UT it's about 4k. Yet I see other wizards with less gear or less AAs do far more dps. So I need to figure out what I am doing wrong, which brings me to my questions:


1) Do any of you use Solar Flare much? If so, where in your casting order is it? The sticky post shows it near the bottom of the efficiency table, but it seems to be to be a fast casting spell with decent damage, so I don't understand why it's not placed higher.

2) Surge of Ro, are you specced for this, and if so when and how often do you use this spell?

3) Iceshape/Velium Gift, also, are you specced for this, and if so just used on trash or anytime it's up?

4) Do you use Bolt of Ice and/or Fission in the middle of a fight even with the long cast time? Do you recast Fission if it misses, or just move on?

5) I am not specced for Fireshape or Manaburn, should I reconsider that? If so, what should I lose to get these?

are you sure you did read the sticky thread? cause almost all your questions are answered there.
for instance runs just hit the big nukes like BoI, BoM, Magma chamber etc...
don't use dots except for some longer named fights and always have velium/ice shape or surge/fire shape up.

anything else has been completely answered by dakkota already...

Yes I did read the sticky, which is why I asked very specific questions and not just a general "omg my dps sucks" post.

For example, Solar Flare is affected by TSO AA points, and because the post was written for ROK, this is a very valid question IMHO. Fireshape is not recommended in that post, but I had seen Wizards talk about speccing for it in the WW Wizard channel, and the reply here Dakkota recommends that I do spec for it, so also valid IMHO. The same goes for my other questions as well, but I don't see the need to point out the specifics. Are you sure that you have fully read the post Sintorah?

made me ask you if you did read the post. I didn't mean to offend you but somehow lately many already answered and discussed questions like yours cross my way and i'm simply asking myself....Why?

First off, if you have Talisman of the Ethernauts and Wand of Elemental Knowledge, why are you looking to get Praetor's Guard. The Talisman is obviously better, and the wand is comparable. In my tests the proc from the Wand did more damage zone wide then the Praetor's Guard, and you only lose 1 crit.

For most of the questions, Daray answered them, but since you are still wondering about Solar Flare, well in my math, even with the extra aa's in them, it's still near the bottom of the list for dps effeciency. I only cast it when nothing else is up, or near the end of the fight as Daray pointed out.

As far as speccing full shadow line, you should do that ASAP. You will see a significant improvement in your dps if you fill out your that tree, and at 177 aa's you should be able to do it. It may take a couple of respecs using the respec trick to fill out your shadow line, but I suggest doing it. And I don't feel like explaining the trick right now.

And concerning fireshape, I feel its worth having. After all, it's only one aa point you spend for it, and combine that with the heat debuff with furnace of ro, and you will see bigger fission and BoI hits. Honestly what else are you going to put the aa in? The other option is to go manaburn, but since this expansion is full of aoe encounters, I don't think manaburn is really an option.

Ok, yeah, I was drunk and tired went I wrote that, so sue me. It's been a pretty wild week-end for me. I was thinking of the Signature quest reward, Dagger of the Ethernaut Magus.
