Wizards are actually hitting for 50-100k dmg?
I'm sort of SK'd out at the moment so I tossed up playing a wizard or fury.
I asked a couple of them, and they were telling me it's not uncommon to hit 35-65k on spells like Fission and BoI.
I don't have experience raiding, but that seems to me an absurd amount of damage. I'm glad wizards are able to hit this if this isn't some number adding BS.
Can you guys give me an idea of what a level 80 (and say about 100AA's) wizard would hit for on a standard non-raid mob? And are these numbers they're given raid buffed and mob debuffed out the ass? I was gonna play a Fury cause I thought they could nuke pretty well, with some survivability. I was gonna get one up to 30 and a wizard up to 30, but man, if you guys are smashing shit for thousands and thousands of damage, I'm gonna say f*ck the Fury and I'll level my wizzy.
I really hope what I've heard is true. Sounds fun smashing stuff.
Thanks!

with all the diff base dmg gear thats avail, and with a troub, on a fully debuffed raid mob, people have broken 100k with BoI. My personal best is 87k and some change, and I have a lot of gear to get still.

Re: Wizards are actually hitting for 50-100k dmg?
you'll need a decent amount of base damage (choker/t2 shoulders or better), 100% true spell crit (ie 115% for raids), spell crit bonus wherever you can get it, and the AA's to increase the base damage on fission/BoI as well as the 2pc bonus from TSO wizard set (15% base on BoI) - and the Najena's Ring of Readiness helps a lot too.
But yeah, it's totally possible to hit for that much. I've done 88k on my wiz and that was in a heroic instance. And that spell only has a 22.5 second reuse timer ^.^
My first toon was a fury, I decided back in december that I didn't wanna be a hybrid wiz/healer, so I betrayed to warden and made a wizard >8P

Don't expect to hit anywhere close to 100k as soon as you hit level 80. It takes a lot of gear, plat for masters and AA to make those kind of numbers.
My wizard has been 80 for a little over a week now, and with 150 AA, T2 robe, and mostly T1 other slots, my best BoI is ~35k, with the average being more like 18k (65% spell crit atm). I think my best Fission was ~30k, and the average is about the same as BoI.
DPS-wise, I'm doing well to get 3k ZW (heroic instance), having taken advice from posts on this board about AA distribution and casting order. It's sad, really, because my inquisitor can do that with autoattack.
There is obviously potential with a wizard (just check the parse thread), but unless you've got 1kpp+ to spend on gear and masters (and a server selling it), don't expect to reach it quickly.

Re: Wizards are actually hitting for 50-100k dmg?
Well, if it's possible, then it may be a labor of love. I've always liked wizards for the big kerbooms, but at certain intervals, priests and other casters were nuking for more than me. This was the same in EQ1...but we could nuke faster.
I'll give em a whirl. Looking at Zam, it seems that I can expect about 5-9k-ish kerbooms when just questing. That's not too bad.
Anyone ever been shown up by another casting class in their history of EQ2 as a wizard? Furies nuke well at 24, but then taper off, and I know chanters are DPS badasses. I don't know if the proc nerf went in and if it toned them down or left them be.
Would you guys do a wizard again if you had to grind up to 80 again from level 1?
Thanks for all the good advice, and for not flaming my face off.

I would do Wizard again for sure. The class has come a long way since T5. We still have the big kabooms. Look at my parses for my average hits... and this is the top top end... something like 60k+ avg on bolt of ice. You should be able to hit 40-50k pretty easily with enough AA to get your end line in TSO, base damage, 100% crit (115% actual), and the ring of readiness.

Awesome. Thanks again for all the good information. I'll check some of your parses, and if you don't mind, use your gear as a template as "stuff to shoot for".

Re: Wizards are actually hitting for 50-100k dmg?
if you have ACT, set a trigger for "Najena's ring" ... then if by chance you are online when a group auction it, AND if you have some plats (like 600 in splitpaw ...) it is THE ring to buy if you like atomic bombs. Without it you will never hit 100K.
