New to Wizard (and eq2)
Hey Guys,
Just wondering if I could get some advice. I've recently started playing eq2 this last week after playing WoW since launch. I just needed a change and im loving EQ2. Before WoW I played EQ1 and I had a necro, so instinctivly I started a necro in EQ2. I got it to level 27 and I noticed my DoT's dont tick all that hard and after research I found out (and was quite disappointed to hear) that necros arent in high demand at end game raiding. Looks like something got lost in translation between EQ1 to EQ2.
I rolled a wizard tonight and I got him to level 15. I have to admit, i like hitting harder... when my spells land. Right now mobs are resisting id say 1/3 of my spells cast. I keep all of my spell schools capped.
I sent message in the Level_1-9 channel asking about this and I was told this clears up after level 20 and more spells tend to land... I just wanted to confirm this. right now it is a bit disgruntling to experience a lot of my spells not landing and being right there taking the hits vs my necro who has his tank pet so a few resists didnt bother me.
Also how is solo leveling with the wizard for the entire career up to 80? Obviously necro likely has the wizard beat with mass mobs, tougher mobs, etc... but I also know that the wizard hits like a mack truck so hopefully that makes up for the whole "glass cannon" idea.
Whats your thoughts/advice guys?
Thanks in advance!

Soloing is simple as a wizard. You wont get as many resists as you level. Necros are useless.

Re: New to Wizard (and eq2)
as far as the resist thing at low levels im gonna be honest with you i have been 80 so long i dont remember... however im assuming when you say "spell school" you mean adept or adept 3 for your spells. (there is a new nameing system that im not used to yet) basically as you improve your spells with app 4 (crafted) or adept1 books or even adept 3 (also crafted) your resistability goes up. so when you get to a level range you think your going to be in for a while id suggest getting your spells as high as you can.
As far as soloing i had no problem soloing a large amount of my levels. and wizards can solo alot of hard stuff necros cant. there are many quests that i have soloed as a wiz and have necro and other mage type friends say its not possible. there are also many heroic named out there that you can solo. for the most part if it can be rooted it can be soloed by a wiz.
finally depending how well you play the class you will have a better shot at raiding on a wiz then a necro. Wizards can do some major damage in end game so guilds get 1 or 2 of them to be parse topping with assassins.
I hope all this helps, and good luck on your up and comeing wizzy. I have had a blast playing mine. good luck with your levels :-)

Resists are always annoying, especially when soloing group content at the level cap, but they don't happen too often. Wizards are some of the best DPS in the game, and can be pretty fun to play.

Re: New to Wizard (and eq2)
Thanks for the tips guys :D
I'm REALLY looking forward to this game. Its always nice to experience a new mmo and see what it has to offer... and truth be told i bought eq2 before I did WoW (namely because it came out sooner ;) ) but I was quite put off by eq2's original launch. The 4 core classes then specializing later? Yuck lol It also didnt feel "complete."
Jumping into it now is great though, I love the Soga (i think thats what its called) graphics and I think its probably one of the sharpest looking MMO's on the market. If eq2 released then what it is now, I'm certain WoW wouldn't be as big as it is now. That being said, it's funny to see people like myself tired of the same old, same old that WoW is putting forth and getting tired of doing nothing when you arent raiding so they are jumping ship and coming to eq2 (hopefully the kids stay with WoW tho ;) ).
It's too bad to hear necros arent what they once were in the eq1 days, but its also nice to see every class can now solo vs eq1 where you NEEDED to group.
Looking forward to the wizzy... just sick of the resists, I had 6 shackles get resisted in a row last night and i was about to throw my mouse through my monitor. After i died a few times by trying to be "too tactical", I embraced the glass cannon and just began nuking everything and did a lot better :D
How are we for soloing some of the higher end stuff ? Farming pretty easy?
Any tips on how to handle pulls of 3+ mobs? with 2 mobs I usually just shackle one and forget about him and focus fire the 2nd one down and then switch over and kill the 2nd one... but pulls of 3 seems like it will be a bit more difficult.
Thanks again guys, cheers!

Re: New to Wizard (and eq2)
You will get a encounter root, which you can cast and keep the single target one ready to pop on the mob that resisted the group one. The roots do stack and you can pop them both on a solo mob and go hog wild on DPS praying that if both break you can either kill it or root it again before it rape your face.
If you don't like dying, I suggest rolling another class.
You will die a lot soloing, unless you are super duper fucking careful about everthing, but that's no fun.
You will get to 80 and people will complain that you don't do enough DPS for a wizard because you are still in 72MC gear and RoK treasured quest rewards.
Then, you get your epic, your mythical - some raid gear and tanks will complain that you do TOO MUCH DPS and they can't hold aggro off of you and you will die, a lot.
One thing to remember when soloing that you can snare mobs instead of rooting them, Flames of Velious has a snare component, as does the proc from frigid gift, and at level 52 you get Numbing Cold, which is a very neat PBAoE snare that procs root on melee for some reason.

Re: New to Wizard (and eq2)
Yeah, soloing larger groups (especially ones that aren't linked as an encounter) as a wizard can be A LOT of fun. You're keeping an eye on your maintained spell window like a hawk, running around like a mad cunt and generally kicking ass. However, it's like building a house of cards, you can die pretty easily. Still, in today's MMO world of low risk love, I find it to be one of the few things that still gets my heart pumping properly.
So yeah, we have a lot of options for soloing at higher levels, roots, snares, it's all good. It means we can farm some pretty damn good stuff, although slower than the good farming classes. Still, because there's so many of us, if we can flagrantly farm something, it gets noticed pretty quickly, and usually changed to immune to root, which then makes it a bit harder but not impossible.

Re: New to Wizard (and eq2)
As anything farming will get easier as you get gear. I used to farm the blue baron in chelsith and it would take me a good 5mins or so to kill him because of the amount of times id get resisted. now i can do it in like 30sec, same with named in KC (another lvl 70+ zone) i used to have to root, use a nuke or 2, root again. now i land both my roots and cast like 3 spells and its almost dead. can finish it with a manaburn and its game over. so dont get down if in the beginning its harder to solo heroics.
