Re: Wizard or Warlock for T8 Solo & Raid play
My feelings on warlock vs wizard:
AoE vs Single.
-There's no debate that the vast majority of encounters in game, solo/heroic or raiding is single target encounters. This leaves wizards with an advantage over warlocks overall as wizards have an upper hand on single target encounters. Also, aggro is especially difficult for many tank classes on AoE encounters so managing aggro where a warlock could potentially really shine is harder as well because of the limits of the tank and their own limited AoE -hate abilities. Wizard > Warlock, imho.
DoTs vs Nukes.
-Warlocks have slightly more DoT lines than Wizards and less nuke lines, resulting in less front damage for warlocks than wizards on fast kills (=less dps and more power waste). This also affects soloing effeciency as each time a mob takes dmg (nuke or each tick of a DoT), it can cause root to break, meaning warlocks have a harder time keeping a mob locked down than wizards. Wizard > Warlock, imho.
AA's.
-No doubt manaburn is less effective than focused casting on most occasions. But at the end of the day, while a raiding warlock can have his casting/recovery speeds maxed between all the raid/group buffs and gear making their ability completely null, manaburn is always situationally useful if properly executed. Stalemate to slight warlock upperhand.
Utility:
-Evac rocks for wizards and both our classes have crap buffs, so I think that counts for a little. I do admit warlock's +subj/disruption/aggression, etc buff is better than our +str/int buff, but I think the convenience and utility of evac counters it as neither of our class buffs even register as useful. Stalemate.
I wouldn't dream of choosing warlock over wizard. They may be better on a few raids and a few zones overall, but I'd say 80%+ of the game content -- solo'ing, grouping and raiding-- wizards are far better equipped to survive and top the parse.
