I don't think you'll have to worry about WAR sucking, but I do honestly feel that WAR will be a huge compliment with WoW (or EQ2 if TSO doesn't suck as bad as predicted) to break any tedium.

On one hand, I'd pretty much never go back to WoW. On the other, I feel its always good to have options, so i'm glad several games are either coming out or having expansions. Whatever one gives me the most fun for my $15 bucks wins. Heck if 2 are really good, I might pay for both since I don't hard core raid 6 nights a week and can mess around with several games if I choose.

It does lack depth, it doesn't mean it won't be fun to log in and just frag for a bit then go do something else, don't need to spend 6+ hours every day on an MMO for it to be fun.
