Not really a flame post (though it’ll probably turn into one), but I think most people expect to find the EL threads here anyway.

Things have died down a lot in the EQ2 world with the pending release of Vanguard. If you hadn’t heard, one of those things is EL. Yep, EL is no more in EQ2 and the core members are moving to Vanguard. Although we were never able to claim a worldwide first on any of the toughest encounters, I think it’s safe to say we’ll always hold the record for the fastest matron kill.

That’s right! Ken-Oh has nothing on Dethrra the Corruptress when it comes to abilities that hit for a set % of hp (105% in this case), and missing no-charm and does-not-affect-epic flags! Before you even ask, yes, it’s been fixed. Is that because we bug reported it? Nope! We did bug report it, just like we bug reported Ken-Oh before we used him.

But the bug report was ignored, because it worked again the next time the matron spawned! And the next, and the next, and the next…. In fact, it wasn’t until we sent a direct tell to GM Kimbial a month later, that this was finally fixed. Admittedly this was only because another guild had found out about the bug and used the charmed pet against the Overseer unsuccessfully, thereby killing the pet which still dropped a legendary chest. Then both guilds hovered around the chest while they waited for the Overseer’s looting right to expire, with an EL member eventually grabbing the chest contents. This was clearly an exploit by EL to get free phat lewts without killing anything, so the other guild petitioned us, hence how GM Kimbial showed up. Ok not exactly. Kimbial was already online, but the stuff about the chest is true! Remember, Kimbial was the GM who gave us the second Cheldrak tooth, so please thank her for getting things right this time, and I mean that seriously, not sarcastically.

Why even bring this up? I guess it pains me to see this guild I loved and had so much fun with, disappear without notice. Many liked to ridicule EL and made us out to be the bottom of the worldwide hardcore raid guilds, but quiet frankly, we were one of the best. Despite playing on the most difficult server, we steadily cut through raid mobs to the very end, as our solid (only 5 people had to revive and run back from the entrance) Mayong kill demonstrated. Yes, contrary to popular belief, The Bazaar is the most difficult server to raid on. Instead of buying gear or geared out characters, the majority of Station Exchange transactions that occurred with EL were people quitting and selling their character. Yes, this happens in other guilds on other servers, too, but being on the SE server just made it that much closer to mind and that much more of a problem. Sure, we also benefited from it some because a few skilled individuals bought characters and joined the guild, but we lost far more than we gained.

Even with the very high turnover, EL persisted and rarely missed a beat (and you can bet our skilled adversaries, Dark Horizon, were there to pick it up when we did. Thanks for the fun DH!). This can only be attributed to the excellent leadership of EL, as well as all the members that made it a fun place to be. Most of you will have to take my word for it not knowing Kalidon, but despite sounding like a 15yr old on the forums, he’s a really cool and understanding guy. Sure, the EL officers aren’t perfect, but they’ve done a pretty damn good job.

P.S. If you want to play a game that (hopefully) doesn’t have bugs that allow you to one-shot raid mobs or have devs that ignore these bugs, and are in need of a hardcore guild, look for them in Vanguard.
