You know, this raises an interesting point. Since it is a non gameplay discussion board, obviously discussion regarding game topics should go elsewhere.

However the official forums have pretty stringent rules: no religion, no politics, no real social issues. Basically nothing that could offend anyone. So once you say no discussion about the game, and eliminate a great deal of topics that people find interesting, what's left?

Pie, basically.

That's just out of the last 25 threads. Not saying there isn't quite a bit of sillyness in the other 19 threads, but give credit where it's due.

I will be the first to admit that NGD has transformed lately. Yes, you can probably find 6 in 25 posts that are "serious" in nature in the last month or so, but go back a little further, and you will find that the silliness, derailing and pie talk is rampant, much moreso than now.

Well know, fair enough, there are certainly interesting topics there. HOwever a lot of folks really don't care about keyboards, microsoft, consoles are whatever else.

A lot of people have interests that are really not allowed to be discussed. So for a lot of poeple, since it's not a place to talk game, and not a place to talk interests outside of game, is just a place of irrelevance.

If it's not relevant, you would think it would just be ignored rather than reviled.

In actuallity it exists to keep these off-topic discussions, be they pie or other silliness, or these safe non-EQ2 topics which don't interest a lot of people, off the REST of the forums. It's a lounge, a place to kick back and relax and BS in general. If that's not your cup of tea, great. You don't have to post or read there. But, why is it so offensive to some people that it is enjoyable to others?

The fact of the matter is there should be no NGD boards. NGD boards are simply a board that has nothing to do with the game, wich shoudl not exsist on message boards that exsist soley to discuss the game. Go to one of the 10000 million other message boards on the interent if you dont want to talk about the game.

But of course you NGD fucks think that you somehow deserve to take over and completely ruin a part of EVERY SINGLE MESSAGE BOARD IN THE WORLD.

You... seriously just said that? Arth, there isn't a SINGLE topic that is allowed under the4 rules that can NOT be brought in and discussed in the NGD. NOT ONE!! The thing that people seem to be missing here is that

A) If the mass audience likes a topic, it will stay on topic. i.e. Radar's examples

B) If a topic comes off as arrogant and/or as an attack, then yeah, the first response is gonna be derailment or ridicule.

C) If you have a topic that starts getting derailed and you want it to STAY on topic, then jump in and bring it back to topic and ask that it stays there It's not a guarantee since if "A" isn't happening, any topic is doomed to failure.

Just because no one really wants to listen to you spew forth about how much you know or how a law applies to a situation doesn't mean that topics aren't allowed. It just means no one wants to hear it anymore.

But C should never even be required.

So we've gone from ruining every forum, to ruining a PART of every message board. Ok, we're making progress.

Again, how does one forum that you apparently never visit have any relevance to you? I really want to know. I've heard this same argument from people opposed to same-sex marriage; it doesn't affect you in the slightest, but you just don't want OTHERS to have it just because.

The NGD exists for socialization. This IS a MMO. Socialization is a part of it. Us "NGD fucks" don't go to one of the other 10000 message boards out there because we don't share interests with the people that frequent those; our shared interest is playing EQ2.

Nonsense.

Topics on politics are routinely shut down.

Same for religion.

Those are just two examples that popped into my head.

How many discussions about stores saying "merry christmas" instead of "happy holidays" got shut down last holiday season? I particularly find that an interesting debate that has to do with social interaction and not the least bit legal field related.

Still got shut down in a hurry.
