Vanguard was supposed to be "the answer", according to many, for what went wrong in every other MMO.

It's got few/no zonelines a-la SWG and later WoW, player cities, attainable mounts for lowbies, (lvl 10+), and was supposed to have been programmed with a good resistance to the usual farmers and exploiters.

Instead, it's got camps and nameds that spawn in the exact same place every time, which is one of the biggest farmer opportunities and pains in the neck for the average player... It's had bug after bug, with folk losing their characters in the wastelands of the unknown for hours at a time, and this one exploit Ebonlore used is actually a pretty small one compared to being able to get and use a level 50 spell at level 10 by keeping a window open and travelling from the Higher level trainer to the lowbie trainer 800 yards away.

Unless you work for either company, one can only guess and speculate the why and wherefores of what was behind the scenes of this partnership. Since I work at neither, I'll give it my best guess...

Sigil was looking for a host with some pipes. If you want an MMO you've got to have some pretty big pipes able to handle quite a lot of traffic. For MMO data pipelines that big you have 3 choices, Microsoft, Blizzard and SoE.

Vanguard chose Microsoft first, and couldn't come to a contractual agreement with MS to host/support their game, this came about at the same time that microsoft completely got out of the MMO genre all together and started focusing its datacenter on its 'live' branding.

Since people at blizzard are a bit stingy with their data pipes, being that only blizzard stuff has gone there, then that left only one alternative, SoE.

When the contract for hosting was written, I assume a date was set for launch in the contract. The launch day came, and sigil lived up to the contract and launched, even though the game needed at least another six months of testing before it should have launched.

Now though, vanguard gets the benefits of really fast pipes, station access, forums, and some other things. Sigil develops, SoE hosts. I don't really see much of an alternative out there at the moment.

thats what i assume to, in other words SoE set the release date. so his original statement would *Seem* valid.

I think it was more, we're going to be paying SoE from this date on, regardless if we are using the pipes are not, so we might as well go live. Or something like that I can imagine.
