I agree this is a problem and I think it's pretty ironic considering the solo quest rewards did the opposite and got changed because they weren't specific enough.
Basically, what I've seen from VP is that an item drops and automatically, 3/4 of the subclasses can't bid on it because it's mage only, or scout only, or fighter only, or priest only.
This is dumb and prevents versatility. It's a step in the opposite direction of what I thought was being done.
IMO, the ideal situation would be to create raid gear that almost every class wants, or a majority of them want.
From a DKP perspective, this is optimal because people bid other people up due to the fact that a lot of people want the same gear.
For leader assigned loot, this is optimal becuase it makes the leaders think who they should assign gear to based on their setups, etc.
For the players it's optimal because you have a huge selection of gear to choose from without any restrictions and are not forced into cookie-cutter type gear the devs THINK is good for you.
