Zones, factions, and equipment in ROK
The factions I thought were done the best in any MMO, and the last ones I really understood, were those in EQ Velious. They had those factions so well designed, it was virtually impossible to be ally with one faction except by being KOS to the other two. So in Velious, you picked with faction you wanted, giant, dwarf or dragon, and you went with the armor, quests, and rewards offered by that faction.
In ROK, there seem to be five different factions in each overland zone, once you get past Kylong. Being somewhat obsessive about completing things, I've been trying to get ally faction with each faction in Fens now. I'm trying to figure out whether I'm wasting my time doing this, however, and whether having ally in these factions is even meaningful in any way.
The problem is, on Nagafen, you can't stand at a faction merchant and browse the selection in a leisurely manner. Those areas are where people hang around to gank you. From what I've seen in quickly trying to see what's on the faction merchants in Fens, all the gear is level 68, just like it was in Kylong, and none of this crap is any better than the crap on the faction merchant in Kylong.
I'm 75 now, and could still continue doing quests in Fens to raise my faction and get quest exp and AA, but I could get better exp at this point moving on to another zone. I'm trying to figure out whether I should just move on now.
So what I need to know is, is there any point maxing faction with any of the Fens factions, or is the level 68 crap gear that isn't as good as mastercrafted yet sells for 5 plat per item the only stuff your faction will get you?

Good rewards and having max faction for 3 different group gets you Fabled Hammer that when you hit something you have a 50% chance to get teleported to the Wastes. Very useful item.

Thanks for info - I had one of those hammers in EQ and loved it

There is a decent belt in Kunzar from the Ry'zilk Renegades above Jinsk for melee types.

There's much better faction stuff in KJ (though not a lot). Like the previous poster said I found the one zone that is really necessary to max out all the factions is JW for the hammer.

To be accurate, in JW it's just the 3 main factions that need to be 50k to get the sledgemallet quest - Legion of Danak, Sel'Nok Brigade, and Clan Skleross.

Furthermore, simply following each of those factions' questlines will net you the required 50k for the hammer quest and incidentally put you at max for buying the faction equipment without having to fuck around with repeatable faction quests as in the other zones.
That said, I recommend the skleross faction belt for melee rather than the one mentioned above as I hate faction grinding at 500 faction a hit.

The Drogans in Fens have a nice little pvp caster ring. It has a chance to proc stuns on hostile spell casts. Not something id wear during pve, but for pvp definetly.

Re: Zones, factions, and equipment in ROK
It's sort of a shame that apart from a few of the items in Jarsath wastes, the vast majority of the faction items are shit.
A lot of people on Venekor have the bow from the Sel'nok brigade, which gives a lot of stamina and HP, as well as the belt from the Skleross. And the roundshield from Hidden Plunderers in the Jungle is the best one in the game outside of raids.
But other than that, every item is pretty much pointless, especially for the price. What makes it worse is that the Jarsath factions are easy as fuck to get while the Fens and Jungle ones all require a shitton of work. Surely the hardest ones should reward the best items. You'd think so, anyway.
