If you have everyone goto windowed mode, if not already in it, then minimize EQ2. EQ2 will go from (for me) 1.4 gigs down to 20megs and start climbing again while minimized. Bring the minimized EQ2 back and you should restart at the average of 380megs and building from there.

It will prevent a large part of the LD's.

Elder Ekron has to have the worst memory leak in the whole damn zone. Even if you don't crash mid-fight you have to clear that crap out or else you are laggy as hell. Besides him I haven't really noticed any other bad areas in the zone.

It also helps to plummet the priority of particle effects with this command:
/r_particle_priority -1

To turn them back on to normal setting it's:
/r_particle_priority 1
