We noticed this last night as well. Previously our four statue clickers never got engaged and could stand and click away. Now they auto engage on the pull, and since the fear/heat AE is raid wide....well, put two and two together.
a) fear going off at a bad time...which is not controllable = raid wipe
b) unless you have a healer running around the room in circles keeping these people alive...after 2 or 3 AEs your statue clickers die.
Unless im missing something..wtf?

Obviously soe devs expect 3-4 healers to do the statue clicking! which leaves 2-3 to heal everyone else and the 2-3 tanks!

You know, this has always happened. After a bunch of pulls, toying around. He would stop auto-engaging people on pull.
Buggy as hell, but dunno wtf that was about. Oh, and not to mention, there's also a bigger, more important thing, whenever we had a healer on a statue, the adds would always go to them and kill them. Even when they had no buffs up, and no gear on. Didn't matter the healer, it just would kill them.

Get a fury with Salve heal spec - then they can give a mage..or anyone else a personal ~800+ heal with a short ass recast timer. I mean it saves the use of one of the healers no? =(

brawlers, paladin, potions, the fabled 3k+ neck item, status heals. there are a few ways to keep the clickers healed.
crouch and walk then freedom of action if needed for fear. As well as some classes/races are immune/resistant/ or self cure fear.

brawler heal is what 1-2mins recast ?
Paladin ? the only reason to have one in the raid is to OT the x2adds with another guard to deal with charm the easy way.
3k heal item is around 4-5min recast
heal pots ? are you having a laugh?
status clickys ? 2 of them on 2min clicky that share reuse timer and then your fucked.
none of them can deal with the damage from the aoe landing every30-40secs, apart from the paladin ofc.
and great a fury can give one clicker the ability to heal themselves, so now we need 3 furys in raid just to give clickers salve....
my post was originally made as sarcastic comment about them constantly changing the encounter and the fact they made the clickers now get hit by the aoe that lands every 30-40secs.

Honestly the easiest way to do it is put all the people that you want clicking in a group with a mystic, for extra help give the mystic time compression, and it shouldn't be an issue /shrug.
IMO chanters and summoners are the best for idols, unless you run 3 tanks then put one of them over there.
Also if you are going to take 4 people out of the fight the mob shouldn't hit as hard as it does or as fast. I'm not saying it should be nerfed to shit but it should be toned down at least slightly above nexona since the adds have more hp and come just as fast and their pathing is even more fucked up.

Touche'.
It needs to be fixed for sure as I said in my edit. I guess the best next way to go would be salve, and roll 4 tanks leaving one to mt, one to ot and the other 2 should regen or self heal enough to keep up. And the 4th being someone close enough to the raid to get healed. Also if you pulled him just out of the room hes in you could center the raid in the center kinda close to the lava where they wont fall in and position their healers as close as possible to where its not a far run...
Its stupid that anyone is forced into that situation, I know, I know, I agree.
