Default Overking

currently we're still working on the overking and trying to figure out if something we are doing is wrong or if we're missing something.

I'm a zerk OT for the raid and we don't have any issue controlling and burning the adds down, the main problem is after 40% when the flaming draughts pop his AoE is going off nearly wiping 1/3+ of the raid force. currently the OK is being tanked right by the throne, i don't prefer this spot but it works fairly well for me so far for controlling the adds.

after the draughts spawn i suppose they are getting too close to him and being absorbed causing his massive raidwide AE and what is the major issue we are having. i figure pulling the overking away from the throne is the best method since the draughts spawn in a circle around the throne and the ones that spawn in the back have to move through the OK to the raid force as they try and burn them down, with some stuns/roots and better coordination i figure this would still work but so far it just doesn't seem like a viable way for our raid and is too unreliable.

my thought was as i mentioned both tanks move to the throne, i grab the initial ^^^ adds and burn them down, once they are either controlled or burnt down then the overking can be moved away from the throne without the encounter resetting. the draughts would have to move through the raid to get to the overking but once attacked off the throne they will summon the person who attacks them first?(i focus more on the grouped adds and not the draughts to make sure they are controlled well) do they hit hard enough to kill several people or should we not worry about it and try that strat anyways and simply try to keep the ranged DPS up after they are summoned?

i'm just getting tired of this fight, do my job fine at it and want the gratification of seeing this bitch dead so any tips or suggestions would be helpful. or perhaps i should try to grab the draughts as well? the targetting in this area just plain sucks...

edit: and yes his sword is being deactivated at 50%, just the draughts seem to be the main issue for us still. don't think i'm missing anything so if something else needs to be deactivated to prevent the AEs then perhaps that is our issue still.

It sounds like you have most of the fight right - but don't move the OK. Keep him at the throne and continue your named/adds routine. When droughts spawn obliterate them. Period. Either assign a main assist or have everybody make target macros; whatever you need to do. They have hardly any HP and don't need to be tanked - just blow them the fuck up.

We move him to buy us time on the draughts and to corral the adds a little easier. You can tank him on the dias, but if it isn't working moving him is viable and doesn't add that much more complexity to the fight.

thanks for the suggestions, i'm sure if the DPS can coordinate themselves better we can tank him on the throne it just hasnt been too successful so far and why i figured pulling him away might be better for our raid. i just wanted to be sure we weren't missing something and it doesn't sound like we are.

ranged DPS just needs to stop sucking...

We start the pull at the throne, once we kill all his adds we make sure he's swiped and both AoE's have fired off... we dps on the big boy till the first set of adds pop.

The OT grabs the adds and burn them down (between the pillars in front of the throne)

Once those adds are under control the person watchin the AoE timer (me) calls for the tank to move (assuming he's green and lookin good).

the tank leap frogs us and goes almost to the next two pillars... just to the side (so if an assassin knocks him back he won't go past the second pillar). This makes ALL the adds funnel through the middle onto the mages/OT peeps... control = 4tw.

We have anyone who's getting hit for lots joust the elemental.

We just cycle through the adds and the named until the draughts start comin. (make sure you use your clicky on OK when he starts spoutin his shit.)

We have 1-2 peeps handlin the Draughts while the rest of the raid does their thing.

If a draught manages to float over the OT/Mages we have them give it a whack until its dead.

Just make sure the draughts are getting tagged & not making it to the overking... and watch your ports ;)

We tried for a while doing it at the throne, but were having draughts in the floor/wall and other sorts of bullshit...

this way allows everything to funnel through the middle.

turned from a huge headache to a firstpull gank

We use the same tactic as above, and for the draughts, we put a monk, ranger and some other mage dps on them. This way, if the monk get ported to the king due to being hit by the draught, he can FD and live.

we move him as above to create the funnel... but we do the draughts differently, which avoids most of the ports.

Wait till they start moving before you tag them.

Also funnel ftw.

Tanking Selrach at his throne w/ the add groups in one of the "near" corners of the room allows for a lot of flexibility and safety. This goes without saying, but you need an offtank with strong AE aggro or a paladin that can simulate that through amends. Also, take note of what spells certain types of adds cast... there may be an order you want to kill them in. =)
