Default Faroth Mal

I recently decided to go back and check this mob out for some fun. I zoned in grey to play with him to see if his encounter is anything other than tank and spank and found that this grey epic seems to take somewhere around 0 damage from a level 80. He then proceeded to feign death me and kill me in two hits. Good times.

So, to the reason I'm posting. If I want to come in and play with this encounter with a few friends (while it cons), how does the encounter work?

I asked around Butcherblock, but the encounter seems to be older than the majority of raiders' memories. The one piece of information I received is that it works like the Pawbuster fight in that terrain is used to kill him.

Any information on the encounter would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

He FD's people. (If you have reflect, sometimes he'll FD himself!)

He has mobs behind the wall, that are super buffing his mitigation. When a player becomes "Marked for death", that indicates that an add with an exploding barrel is going to run and place it at that person's feet. The Marked player then must go and stand by one of the cracked walls, and wait for the Add. Once the barrel is placed, the player can move. After about 2 seconds the barrel explodes, hurting anyone near it, and if will also blow a hole in the wall. You can then have someone shoot an arrow or whatever at the mob behind the wall, and pull it out and kill it, thus weakening Farroth Mal's armor. You can do this 3 times, but if your lvl 80 mentorred down I doubt it'll take more than 2.

After you kill him there is more to do, loot his corpse, get some items and go forward into the zone to find the treasure chest. You have to move planks and boxxes to get over some obstacles.

You've been playing eq2 far too long while the zone was fun I wouldn't call it amazing, definitely one of the better encounter designs though.

At the time that zone was revolutionary. Every other encounter in the game was a burn fight. While the contested mobs were actually pretty interesting (Kra'Thuk and Vox come to mind), instanced encounters were all burn fights.

Though to be honest most encounters seemed to call for a more complex strategy than the burn fight which every guild used, like the firemyst drakota thing. It wasn't until some of the later scripted fights in tier6 that guilds really flocked to ventrilo.

Back when that zone came out I remember going in and learning it. To look back at it now it seems funny but I remember wiping many times trying to complete that encounter. Some people are just rocks and don't listen to well...
