Because they are fucking awesome! :P
About that lag... I really feel sometimes that SoE is using a rusty old 486 for every zone hooked to the net with an acoustic coupler... I can literally hear the noise.
The reason why players experience such lag cannot be that hard to track down. I myself was in a free mmorpg dev team which ofc came nowhere close to EQ2's features, but all zones had a decent amount of NPCs, a regular player base of up to 100 in a zone, and a single CPU was running all zones at 1-3% CPU usage. WTF?
In my opinion it's about time that the player base pressures for performance changes again. The first wave of the fixes (quest journal et al) was pretty awesome, and tbh with changing and added game features this will become more and more of a problem to the raiding community which is not as small as people on the official boards wanna make you believe at times.
Even if they are a minority, it's the people who stick with the game and those are the ones who deserve to be heard...
Fought AoG recently with about 150 people in LFay, four full raids plus "adds" and some spectators. Noone came even close to a kill until 2am when the number of people left dropped to around 60. Again, what the fuck?
It's not "who can gather a raid the fastest" anymore which decides who kills a contested, it's "who can stay up the longest". Bleh.
