Your favourite raid mobs - and why..
I was just wondering, which mobs do people rate as their favourite to raid and why? Feel free to include mobs from any tier and more than one if you a few particular favourites.
Not raiding contested, I quite like the Amorphous Drake. I like the graphics of the different stages, the act of spawning, the look of the final mob and the twist in the fight.
Also Cheldrak because it's a tough, fun fight to learn.
Pro.

Re: Your favourite raid mobs - and why..
The encounters I most enjoy now are Chel'Drak and 3 Princes. I like Chel'drak because of the complexity of the strat required, it isn't your standard raid tactic and is just plain a good encounter. I also enjoy 3 princes because the encounter is setup nicely and allows for not only fun, but also at least some semblance of a challenge albeit not nearly the challenge it used to present.
I like the majority of the Matron encounter but some of it really turns me off. Including random teleports into groups of heroic mobs, having to kill 2 epic mobs before each attempt, and just the whole orange con mechanic itself. Other then that this is my favorite current encounter, however due to the things I listed it isn't nearly as enjoyable as it could be.
My all time favorite encounter has honestly got to be revamped Berserk Krathuk from t5. The biggest, baddest version of him which I believe was just after his revamp before subsequent nerfs. Basically the Krathuk was a big penis contested in Everfrost. He had 3 groups of heroic add who would in time merge into epic adds. Also throughout the fight heroic adds continued to spawn whom would also merge into epic adds if not killed. If you managed to kill every single add that was up then the Berserk Krathuk would spawn. The general tactic at the time was to just leave the Berserk Krathuk alone. However my old guild, Genesis, were hell-bent on not only owning the Berserk Krathuk, but also world-firsting him in his new state. We developed a strategy, and developed our optimum raid force then we went out there and put in the wrench time so to speak. I was the main assist so basically it was my sole responsibility to get Berserk Krathuk to spawn. With so much of the raid's success solely riding on my shoulders I think it really fired me up and I loved it. Needless to say I perfectly maneuvered the adds destroying them all and at last Berserk Krathuk spawned. We had our hands full but had the fight stable, as the fight wore on it became more and more un-stable. By the last 5% we were barely holding on and at 1% there were 20 or more corpses around him. When he finally died for the world-first kill all 24 of us were dead, and there was a master chest sitting in the middle of a circle of corpses. It was simply put the most fucking fantastic fight I have ever been a part of, it was purely fucking amazing. You should have heard the emotion in ventrilo, it was a very rare moment indeed.
I don't know why the hell I just typed all that, but your question got me reminiscing about t5 raiding. Sorry to de-rail your thread like that.

Chel'Drak for the compexity and fun. The last eyeball in labs for the comic relief effect the first time I went there and the named i had to listen to yammer on for nearly a minute dies in 30 seconds flat. Tarinax for being the best looking raid mob to date graphics-wise.

T6:
Fire Witch / Black Queen - If you didn't kill the FW on the first pull you didn't get a chest, which made this a challenging encounter with it depopping quickly. The BQ because it was orange and popped right after you killed the FW. It was a hell of a challenge to kill the FW, then do the BQ right after without wiping. I enjoyed all of Courts, until I became KoS to everything, then it was just boring killing all that trash.
PoS - The two dragons weren't hard, but it was just a good challenge to have to kill them at the same time and keep their health close to each other.
T7:
I always enjoyed clearing Labs in 1.5hrs. But DT is my favorite zone, Cruor and Tarinax are the best two encounters in that zone especially after they fixed Tarinax. MO and Three Princes are my favorite contested mobs, even though MO is gimped now.

Chel'Drak, The Three Princes, Hurricanus, Tarinax, Vilucide, Djinn Master, Pedestal of Sky, The Black Queen, Lord Nagalik, Vision of Vox, Kra'Thuk, K'Dal and Spirits of the Lost. They are challenging encounters that require you to actually think and coordinate or are just unique in their own special way. I love fighting these encounters more than any other mob in game.

3 Princes, Pedestal of the Sky, SoTL, Chel'drak, Matron.
all encounters require more strategy/execution than your average raid mob.

Re: Your favourite raid mobs - and why..
my personal favorite is chel'drak. it is my favorite because it is involved and difficult and there is always something going on during the fight whether it is class adds, regular adds, or just trying to put some DPS on chel'drak. i think more fights like this are needed where the named mob itself is only part of the fight but a lot of the challenge comes from the adds.
most of the really fun fights i have done in EQ2 so far are ones that involved either multiple named mobs like 3 princes and pedastal or ones where there were adds that made the fight more difficult like chel'drak. when there are hard to control adds it makes a fight more fun because there is just more stuff going on like back up tanks need to focus on grabbing aggro and moving them where they need to go, DPS to be able to move DPS to adds to take them out, and healers to keep heals not only on the main tank but also on the tanks on adds.
